Justin "JT" Taylor
Ken Potter
Kevin Fairchild
Danny Clark
A veteran of some of the best bands in the area, Ken has been performing live music in bars, ballrooms, and honky tonks all over the Midwest for "a bunch of years." Growing up in Osage Beach, Missouri (the Lake of the Ozarks), some of his earliest musical influences were: James Taylor, Paul Simon, the band Chicago, anything Motown, Neil Young, and of course, the Beatles. After graduating high school Ken briefly attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he majored in Music Education. It was there while working at the local music store that he was first asked to join a band. So he bought a brand new Fender Bass and an amp and off he went. Ken adds, "I had no idea what I was getting in to, but it was, and still is, a whole lotta fun."
Deciding that he didn't want to teach music after all, Ken spent the next 12 years or so playing with bands all over western Missouri and the Kansas City Metro area. Booking gigs through the exclusive agency, United Entertainment, Ken toured several years with Brandy, one of the midwest's most popular variety/show bands. "We played everything..top 40, rock, pop, blues, old classics, country, and disco. Yes, I said disco!" he says with a mischievous grin. Ken credits these early bands and the plethora of musical styles for teaching him how to find the "groove" in almost any kind of music.
Ken, his wife Kim, and his 2 daughters moved to Andover, Kansas in
1992 where he went to work for Countryside Lawn and Tree Care. I'm still there today. It's an awesome company and a great job. The Wichita music scene offered ample opportunity to jam with all kinds of bands. Ken soon capitalized on it, playing with some of the best country and variety bands in town. Ken jokes, I don't look good in spandex anymore, so country music seemed the most obvious fit, punctuated by his famous smile. Over his years in the Wichita area Ken has played with the variety band Full House, country favorites Slate Creek, singer/songwriters David Holland, Mike Love, and Joe Worrel, Red Dirt artist Jason Boyd, and also spent 7 years in Sam Bidwell's band Second Shift.
Ken joined the band Turnback Creek in early 2011 and has been having a blast ever since. They are talented vocalists, great musicians, and just plain fun to hang out with! As the resident old guy in the band Ken brings a ton of musical experience and wisdom with him. Teamed together with drummer Danny Clark, Ken provides the solid foundation needed to help make Turnback Creek one of the best bands in the region.
